Cycle traffic volumes (DB Rad+) Hamburg

Description

This data set contains the amount of cycling traffic and the average cycling speeds that are recorded in the Hamburg road network with the help of the DB Rad+ app. The use of the data takes place only with the consent of the respective app users. The total volume of cycle traffic per year (in the case of started years up to the previous day) and the total volume of cycle traffic of the last seven days are provided per road section. In the first year (2022), additional areas of Hamburg's urban area and road network were gradually unlocked over the year, so that the data for 2022 does not reflect a reliable overall picture of the entire city. Only those road sections on which eight or more journeys have taken place during the period under consideration are shown. For each line section, the total number of journeys and the average speed (km/h) in the respective period are displayed. The network basis on which the data is projected comes from OpenStreetMaps. The data were processed for Hamburg, in particular for display in the urban geoportals. The data are mainly used for a qualitative assessment of which roads and how much cycling is used and whether there have been changes/shifts over the years, e.g. because cycling systems have been renovated or newly built. The absolute figures, on the other hand, are not very meaningful, as they largely depend on the number of users of the DB Rad+ app. It should also be noted that the users of the DB Rad+ app and thus the routes used are not necessarily representative of the total population and cycling throughout the city.
