Cadmium background values in groundwater of Lower Saxony 1: 500.000

Description

In order to fulfil the tasks of the EC Water Framework Directive (EC-WRRL) and the Groundwater Ordinance (GrwV), background values for dissolved cadmium in groundwater were determined for the hydrogeological sub-areas of Lower Saxony. The background values of dissolved cadmium include the levels that occur under natural conditions due to the contact of the groundwater with the surrounding rock matrix of the aquifer. The map shows color-differentiated cadmium background values (90th percentile) of the different subspaces. The classification is based on the valid de minimis thresholds (JFS) of the State Working Group on Water (LAWA), the limit values of the Drinking Water Ordinance (TrinkwV) and the guidelines of the World Health Organisation (WHO). By selecting a subspace you get further information (e.g. number of samples, etc.). Detailed information on cadmium in the groundwater of Lower Saxony can be found in GeoReport 41. Background values are not current measurements of groundwater quality and cannot be used as such! Information about the data: The collected data are the subject of a research project of the University of Bremen, Department of Geosciences, Department of Geochemistry and Hydrogeology (Kubier 2019a), which was initiated as a measure under EC-WRRL (MU 2015). The research project was carried out in cooperation with the LBEG, the project was funded by the Lower Saxony State Agency for Water Management, Coastal and Nature Conservation (NLWKN) with funding from the state of Lower Saxony from the field of groundwater. A final report with extensive documentation (Kubier 2019b) has been prepared for the research project, which forms the basis for GeoReport 41.
