** Description updated on 15 March 2021 ** ## THIS IS AN EXPERIMENTAL PUBLICATION OF DATA ### Data story Over the years, we received dozens of messages through various channels in the Opendata.fi service about the fact that many users of open data find it difficult to use the open data interface of the Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH). We wondered if we could do something small about it? We made an experimental Python-script that collects open data published by PRH and publishes it monthly in the opendata.fi service. This is because we also use open data published by PRH. We hope that we will be able to deepen our cooperation with the PRH in the future. Furthermore, the Open Data Directive (1024/2019/EU), which will be implemented in 2021, recommends that dynamic data be published both as an interface and as a file. According to various surveys, it is often much easier for people to use open data as a file than as an interface. In addition, several interfaces are used to compile the file. Even though our resources are tight, we thought this small gesture might help people take advantage of PRH’s open data more easily. Based on the feedback, it seemed that there was a large order for the open data published by PRH, but the users found it difficult to use. A new version of the data (file) is released monthly because we are unable to collect data from the PRH interface faster than this. company data collected as open data collected from an open API operated by the PRH on http://avoindata.prh.fi to a CSV file. Many users of open data have found the interface difficult to use, and the data have been requested from us as a file by several different users. At DVV, we have extracted the most important fields from the data in this file and removed companies that have ceased operations. The publication of this data set is part of an agile experiment that is improved (itered) with the help of data recovery feedback. The file is updated regularly once a month and is kept up to date. At the moment, the PRH interface cannot withstand this more frequent update and we aim to burden it as little as possible. For the time being, we do not publish the searchscript code as an open source because it would already burden the PRH interface, which is already at the load limit, which means, for example, that this file could no longer be published once a month (we are already using almost a month to collect and update it). ## FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ### 1. You should also contact PRH directly on these issues. Avoindata.fi only collects the data they publish. If the PRH publishes the data more comprehensively, the content of the data in our file release will also be more comprehensive. ** ** Somewhere in the EU there are two business registers. One for private business practitioners and the other for other forms of business. France, for its part, has interpreted the requirement of transparency as meaning that the protection of individuals in this case is partly overridden by the requirement of transparency. ** ### 3. Why do you have the same file many times? ** We collect and publish the data as a file once a month. Currently, the PRH interface cannot withstand this more frequent collection and publication of data. The interface has 300 queries per minute distributed among all its users, after which the connection is interrupted for everyone. The files are monthly publications of the material.
