Maritime delimitation – straight baselines
Description
In the law of the sea, a straight base line consists of a loxodromic line joining two points of the low sea line or shoals discovering whether there are headlights or similar permanent installations. The conditions for tracing such lines are defined in Article 7 of the UNCLOS.
Straight baselines are part of the baselines of a coastal state below which inland waters are defined. These straight baselines, in addition to the normal baseline, form the inner boundary of the territorial sea and serve as a basis for calculating the outer limits of other maritime areas defined in UNCLOS. They are also composed of bay and river closure lines in accordance with Articles 9 and 10 of UNCLOS.
The objects of the theme “Right basic lines” are derived from the work of determining the Shom and are published by decree of the French Republic.
