Air temperature in the Helsinki metropolitan area
Description
The data is a raster map layer produced using a linear regression model. In addition to Espoo, Helsinki and Vantaa, the map layer covers some areas of neighbouring municipalities. The regression model has been calibrated in the Turku region, after which the model has been applied in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area. The regression model has been calibrated in Turku so that the variable to be explained has been the air temperature measured by the TURCLIM observation network (https://sites.utu.fi/turclim/). The variables related to water areas, relative height and urban land cover have been used as explanatory variables, some of which are available on the Avoindata.fi platform as their own datasets. In the modelling of each situation, the most appropriate zone size of the explanatory variable has been used, which has been defined on a variable-by-variety basis on the basis of correlation analysis and subjective consideration based on the theoretical background of the topic. After the calibration of the model in Turku, the model has been applied in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area, where the same explanatory variables have been available as in Turku. The reference temperatures of the observation stations of the Finnish Meteorological Institute have also been utilised in the application of the model in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area. The temperature dataset has a resolution of 100 m and covers land areas. The data can be viewed from the Lounaistieto map service https://karttapalvelu.lounaistieto.fi/
