Documentation of conversion areas Neuwegwald as part of LIFE-Gesäuse
Description
In the lower Johnsbach Valley in the area Neuwegwald-Neuwegkogl-Krummschnabel (local designations according to the Alpenvereinskarte 16: Ennstaler Alpen/Gesäuse (Austrian Alpine Association 2002) were exposed from January to May 2009 and in November 2010 (re-work) the spruce poles 6b, 6d, 6c, 14e1, 14e2 and 14f with the aim of promoting natural rejuvenation and a site-oriented tree species mixture (competition regulation or purification). For this reason, the trunks were cut cross and crosswise and left as bulky as possible to make rejuvenation zones more difficult to penetrate the game. Only the main changes, if any, were made feasible. All reciprocated trunks were left on site without debarking, with stronger strains (BHD 15 cm) divided into about 3 m long bloke. In a very shady position, even stronger tribes were left long. Only to a very small extent, and by no means problematic, the abandoned strains of bark beetles were used as a breeding possibility. The deforestations were carried out by the direct representative (Harald Haseke, Alois Leitner) of the Nationalpark Gesäuse GmbH under the supervision of the responsible district manager.
This report is intended to document the situation of the conversion areas in the summer of 2011 in order to better interpret the evolution of stocks in later times.
