Solar energy map of Espoo
Description
Espoo solar energy map. The study has analysed the amount of solar radiation that falls on the roof surfaces of all buildings in Espoo. The analysis has been carried out using a three-dimensional model built on the laser scanning data together with the meteorological data of the Finnish Meteorological Institute for the reference year. The simulation also takes into account cloudyness and how vegetation and other buildings overshadow the rooftops. The result is the amount of solar radiation that falls on individual roofs each year. The analysis covers about 44000 buildings. Only buildings with a ceiling area of more than 20 m² are included in the analysis.
The analysis has been produced in collaboration with WSP Finland and WSP Analysis & Strategy, Sweden. SEES (Solar Energy from Existing Structures) software is developed by the University of Gothenburg.
