Geological maps of Estonia 1:400,000
Description
The set of geological maps of Estonia (scale 1:400 000) includes (1) a map of the surface, (2) a map of the bedrock, (3) a map of the crystalline order, (4) a map of hydrogeology and (5) a map of groundwater protection. The maps cover the entire territory of Estonia.
The surface map shows the main sediment types, landforms and buried valleys of the surface.
The bedrock map has been compiled on the basis of medium- and large-scale maps published earlier. The map shows the openings, failures, buried valleys, one geological cross section of the bedrock and the locations of the bedrock stratotypes (the same supporting sections as in the geological base map).
The map of the crystalline order has been compiled on the basis of the complex study of nearly 500 boreholes and detailed gravimetric and magnetometric mapping data. The map depicts rock complexes and breakdowns, the information comes mainly from 1960-1990. The map shall also show the locations (part of the factual material of the geological reference map) and cross-sections of boreholes reaching the base.
The map of hydrogeology depicts aquifers and complexes, giving an overview of the water yield and collector properties of bedrock.
Also shown are cross-sections, faults, buried valleys, groundwater overflow areas and hydroisohyps of the first bedrock water complex from the ground.
The groundwater protection map depicts the natural protection of the first bedrock water complex from potential pollution from the ground.
In addition, the characteristics of the water complex, the areas of groundwater overflow and the hydroisohyps of the first bedrock water complex from the ground are shown.
