Soil erosion ABAG - ABAG: Extended water network

Description

For parcel-sharp issues of erosion protection, a large-scale map basis is required on the erosion sensitivity of agricultural soils and on the expected runoff paths in the target scale of 1:5,000. Due to their spatial resolution (5 x 5 m grid) and the consideration of slope length and crop rotation, these erosion hazard maps provide an important working basis for agricultural advice, the implementation of land consolidation procedures or measures to implement the European Water Framework Directive. The methodology is based on the General Soil Ablation Equation (ABAG), which is also the technical basis of DIN 19708. The maps of the erosion hazard are supplemented by drainage-effective depth lines that have connection to the water network and form the so-called extended water network with these. Theme booklets Preventive soil protection:The extended water network contains drainage-effective depth lines that are connected to the water network. The exact location, spatial density and distribution pattern of these surface water runoff trajectories are of great interest. In the event of erosion, soil material is transported here and entered into waters or settlement areas at crossing points. The depth lines are shown from a minimum size of the catchment area of 5 ha. The following points should be noted: In settlement areas, the course of the depth lines must be critically questioned, since the calculation based on the digital terrain model DGM 5 does not take into account information from the settlement drainage (e.g. inlet shafts). In areas with large-scale low slope inclinations (e.g. parts of the Vorderpfalz, Landstuhler Bruch or Neuwieder Becken), the course of the depth lines is often not plausible. Where artificial drainage trenches exist, the modelling result must also be critically questioned. At road or motorway dams, the lack of information on the location of dam passages can lead to an unrealistic course of the deep lines along the traffic routes.
