Nutrient contaminated areas
Description
The government designates so-called nutrient-contaminated areas (NV areas) where agricultural companies must take additional steps to improve water quality. This obligation follows from the European Commission's derogating decision. This decision allows farmers to apply additional manure for a few years, provided that vulnerable (water) areas reach a healthy level more quickly. The designation took effect on 1 January 2024.
