Description

__Updated datasets__ As of April 2026, we have improved the “Federal Corporations” dataset by dividing the data into four subsets, each in both official languages. Files are typically updated daily. __Dataset descriptions__ An __active__ corporation is one that has not been dissolved or otherwise legally terminated under its governing legislation. An __inactive__ corporation is one that no longer exists or is no longer governed by legislation administered by Corporations Canada. The datasets do NOT include information about corporations created under financial legislation (such as financial institutions, insurance companies or loan and trust companies) or those created under provincial, territorial or other corporate legislation. __Active business corporations__ The dataset only contains information about federal business corporations created under the _Canada Business Corporations Act_ (CBCA) that are currently active. __Other active corporations__ The dataset only contains information about the following types of federal corporations that are currently active: * not-for-profit corporations created under the _Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act_ (NFP Act) * cooperatives created under the _Canada Cooperatives Act_ (Coop Act) * board of trades created under the _Boards of Trade Act_ (BOTA) * corporations administered by a Special Act of Parliament. __Inactive business corporations__ The dataset only contains information about federal business corporations created under the _Canada Business Corporations Act_ (CBCA) that are currently inactive. __Other inactive corporations__ The dataset only contains information about the following types of federal corporations that are currently inactive: * not-for-profit corporations created under the _Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act_ (NFP Act) * not-for-profit corporations created under the _Canada Corporations Act, Part II_ (CCA II) * cooperatives created under the _Canada Cooperatives Act_ (Coop Act) * board of trades created under the _Boards of Trade Act_ (BOTA) * corporations administered by a Special Act of Parliament.
