Water Opportunities Map Urban Area – Effort Level
Description
In order to indicate in which direction urban expansion can best be sought from a (geo-)hydrological point of view, a map of opportunities has been created by combining three criteria that gives an indication of the degree of suitability for urban expansion. The criteria used are:
Infiltratiemogelijkheden: The possibilities for infiltration are assessed on three factors, namely: coating thickness, indication of seepage intensity and development potential for freshwater resources.
Zettingsgevoeligheid: Sensitivity was assessed on the basis of a combination of the factors thickness of clay layer, thickness of holland bog and soil structure.
Waterhuishouding: Locations where there is an increased risk of flooding are indicated on the basis of seepage intensity, relative altitude and soil structure.
The legend of the map gives an indication of the effort needed for urban development: from low to very high.
