Description

Latvian legislation defines noise as unwanted, disturbing sounds of all kinds, which cause discomfort, affect hearing and interfere with acoustic communication. Environmental noise means outdoor noise from human activity, such as noise from vehicles, road traffic, rail traffic, air traffic, noise from industrial areas of operation. Noise in the air moves like sound waves, while sources of this noise can also cause harmful vibrations that act through the ground and various solids or surfaces. Strategic noise maps are being developed to assess the overall exposure of different sources of environmental noise or to determine a general prediction of environmental noise for a given area. INSPIRE Watching service contains noise maps created by various means of transport.
