Artificial Reefs

Description

In this layer are located the limits that define the artificial reefs installed on the Andalusian coast, both on the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts. Its installation has been developed within a Program of conditioning of the coastal strip by the Directorate General of Fisheries of the Junta de Andalucía. These reefs are intended both to protect against illegal trawling and to increase fishing production on the continental shelf, although the recovery of areas where overexploitation had reduced the capacity of fishing grounds is one of the reasons why more of them have been installed in certain areas. Likewise, in areas where it is necessary to protect and enhance areas of ecological interest, such as the Posidonia oceanica meadows, these artificial reef spaces have been created.
