Guadalquivir clay database at 1:50,000 scale

The computerization of the Arcillas del Guadalquivir database responds to the need to computerize the existing documentation on clay materials in the Guadalquivir Valley. In order to carry out this task, a work programme was followed which was based on the following points:
- Pre-collection of information and selection of the IT system.
- Collection and analysis of information.
- Database design
For the collection of information, the most important documentary centers related to the subject to be treated were visited. Among the most significant are those of the Institute of Ceramics and Glass, Technological Institute and Universities of Madrid, Seville, Huelva and Granada.They reviewed many Spanish and foreign journals, scientific papers, research projects, etc.
It should be noted as one of the most important on which this database has been based, the project carried out by the ITGE and which has the name "Study for the industrial use of the Clays of the Neogen of the Guadalquivir Depression". From this project, the geological map has been digitized as a graphical base and has constituted the main source of the database. It is an updated inventory of clays from the Guadalquivir Valley, in which all previous research work is synthesized, farm data and clues are collected and updated, while all formations with clay content are thoroughly studied and the most interesting clays are analyzed and tested technologically.
The project of the database of Arcillas del Guadalquivir was carried out by the Compañía General de Sondeos, S.A. for the Junta de Andalucía on behalf of its Mines Service.
